October in Gothenburg

In October a lot happens for festival managers in Gothenburg. Culture Action Europe organises its annual meeting in Gothenburg from 15-17 October. It revolves around questions of democracy and invites among others Katrín Oddsdóttir from the Icelandic Constitutional Committee and Anna Rosling Rönnlund, Co-founder of the Gapminder Foundation to speak. The travelling lecturer Paul Gudgin is giving a masterclass in Stockholm 20-21 October and he then goes on to Gothenburg to give a lecture on 22 to 23 October.

NordicBaltic Festival Conference in Stockholm 29-30 October

Now is the time to register for the conference in October and pay the lowest fee! The conference takes place in Stockholm at Hotel Birger Jarl on 29-30 October 2015. Many well known speakers and panellists from the Nordic countries and the Baltic states. Politicians, Festival Managers and artists representing all artforms are coming. Also 6-7 selected projects for Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Sweden, seeking partners in the region, are presenting themselves. The full project will soon be published.

Training for festival leaders and upcoming festival leaders

During 2016 European Festivals Association (EFA) organise training for festival leaders in Antwerp, Belgium, 20-23 January 2016 and for emerging festival leaders in Budapest, Hungary, 2-8 June 2016. Deadline for The Festival Production Management Training, in Belgium is 30 September and deadline for the Atelier for Young Festival Managers, in Hungary are already 15 September 2015. APPLY NOW!! New opera for children at Drakamöllan Operafestival

First Night performance on a childrens opera at Drakamöllan Operafestival in the southern Swedish landscape of Österlen takes place outdoors on 15 and 16 August at 14 hours. Later the performance is meant to go on tour in Skåne, in Sweden and around the Nordic countries.

Kjetil the dragon is a completely new opera for children from 6 to 10 years, and for all others with a child at heart . We offer a great and genuine opera experience with live orchestra, many singers, an emotional story and fire-breathing dragons, simply everything that we associate with opera.

A lot of new Swedish music on festivals 2015

Swedish Music Festivals collaboration with the Society of Swedish Composers and STIM Promotion Fund in 2015 has resulted in support for recent works of 30 Swedish composers, including 16 commissioned works . The contemporary music that was supported amount to 13 hours and 57 minutes and it is performed at 15 festivals from Haparanda in the north to Ystad in the south between 13 June and 11 October 2015. A total of 166 musicians and other artists participates in staging the music. It is truly fantastic!

Europe’s finest festivals honored with EFFE Label 2015-2016

EFFE is proud to announce the results of Europe’s finest festivals honored with the EFFE Label 2015-2016. Following a process of intense evaluation from national experts to an international jury, 761 festivals from 31 countries now belong to the first generation of EFFE Label recipients. 35 of them are Swedish. On Sunday 27 September 2015 in Paris, Europe’s festival community is invited to the EFFE Award Ceremony and EFFE Community Launch to celebrate the first edition of the EFFE Labels and Awards.

Five new festival members 2015

Swedish Music Festivals increased with five new members 2015. Among them two earlier members who have returned and three joined for the first time. The festivals can be found from Uppsala in the north to Huaröd and Ystad in the south, from Gotland to Kalv in western Sweden. Gotland Chamber Music Festival and Kalv Festival for contemporary music are old acquaintances. New are Music Festival on Isidors Hill, Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival and Uppsala International Guitar Festival. All but the guitar festival ( October) organizes their festival during the summer months.

Swedish festivals highlighted in Turkish magazine

Turkish classical music magazine - Andante - recently made a special edition on the music scene, the music institutions and the music festivals in Sweden. The special edition starts with a comprehensive interview with the Minister of Culture, Alice Bah Kunke, and continues to describe several of our largest institutions, orchestras and choirs around Sweden. Classical music festivals are highlighted on pages 22-23 and 30-35. Basically all our classical festival members are found here.

Swedish Music Festivals join MAIS

Swedish Music Festivals is the newest member of MAIS - a cooperative association of organisers of music. It includes Swedish organisers of Chamber Music (RSK), young organisers of pop and rock music (Kontaktnätet), organisers of Contemporary Music ( RANK ), organisers of Folk Music and Dance ( RFoD ) , organisers of Jazz (SvenskJazz) , organisers of Choir music (Sveriges Körförbund), organisers of orchestral music ( Sveriges Orkesterförbund), organisers of Sing-song writer music ( RVS ) and organisers of Music Festivals (SMF).
