From beginners to advanced musicians, share a new musical adventure in the dreamland of Småland, 28 km from Västervik. Discover or improve your klezmer curiosity: effects, style, repertoire, improvisation, concert… Under the artistic conducting of Samuel Berthod, french clarinetist who opened the first klezmer class in Paris, you will develop your skills.
The transportation from Gamleby’s bus or train station to the workshop is provided by us, and is free of charge.

Vinterfest - forbidden music

Alreday in February the Swedish festival season is awake; in a frozen Swedish landscape "... a festival that rocks" (The Times). Vinterfest in Mora, Orsa and Älvdalen is one of Sweden's high-profile festivals. Just a few Swedish festivals are better known abroad than the exotic chamber music festival started 2006 by Music in Dalarna with Martin Fröst as the artistic director. After 10 years, the Icelandic pianist Vikingur Ólafsson took over as artistic director. Winterfest 2017 is his second year.

Dalarnas Cultural Award to Dala-Floda Opera Festival

Dalarna County Council's cultural award for 2016 goes to the opera singer Anna Eklund Tarantino as she: "with dedication and heart have moved the high culture of the great salons to the small town." Anna Eklund Tarantino, born in Falun, is an opera singer and artistic director of Royal Festivals in Stockholm. She is also the initiator of Dala-Floda Opera Festival. Seven years ago she bought a vacation home and family in Dala-Floda and has for six summers arranged both opera performances in the form of opera courses for disabled young people.

SAMSPEL - the steering committee is appointed

The steering committee for the initiative "Samspel" - a state assignement to improve better collaborative structures for live music in Sweden - is now appointed. "Samspel" is a three-year assignement funded by the government. The goal has been to add a group of cooperative people, representing different parts of the music scene, and thus have complementary experience and knowledge. To enable rotation in the group during the project period, all members are elected for one year.

SAMSPEL - improved coordination for live music in Sweden

MAIS (Music Organisers in Cooperation) have launched Samspel (play together), a state assignment,  with the aim to create better conditions for the free active professional musicians and spread their performances to more locations and more people. In this way, we get a richer and wider music scene in Sweden. In this assignment, pilot operations in the form of models for touring will be implemented in close cooperation with the music scene and the goal is long-term improvement of collaborative structures for touring music nationwide.

EFFE Label 2017 - 2018: Festivals are now invited to apply!

The European Festivals Association is now delighted to invite festivals to apply for the EFFE Label 2017-2018. Festivals may apply until 17 february 2017 and the result will be announced by the international jury two months later. EFFE is an initiative of the European Festivals Association (EFA) co-financed by the European Union. Sweden Festivals is the national coordinator of EFFE in Sweden.

The Vilnius conference - the best so far!

The 2nd edition of the NordicBaltic Festival Platform (NBFP) Conference took place on 3-4 November in Vilnius, Lithuania. The conference brought together 70 managers and artistic directors of festivals from all fields of art to exchange ideas and best practices, make new connections and explore various possibilities for cooperation, and to visit some of the arts shows in Vilnius.

5 million to support gender booking on festivals

55 festivals sought support for gender equality on festivals. Almost half - 26 festivals - got to share 5.2 million (5,235,930) SEK. So much money was allocated in the call form the Swedish Performing Art Agency where festivals could seek support in order to work for gender artist booking. The decision was taken by the agency's creative council November 18, 2016.

New assignment to enhance Swedish Music Life

Now it's here! Musikverket has given MAIS a national assignment to develop new cooperative structures for live music in Sweden. The mission aims to create better long-term structures for the live music throughout the country. MAIS is an association consisting of ten music federations in Sweden representing more than 1500 organisers of live music. Sweden Festivals is a MAIS-member.
