Festival Management Training - extended deadline reduced fee

Module I of the second edition of the Festival Production Management Training will take place in Antwerp, Belgium, from 18-21 January 2017, hosted by deSingel International Art Campus. Young production managers from all over the world will meet and exchange with experienced production managers. For EFA members and Sweden Festival members the deadline is now extended to 30 September.

Useful and educative for festivals

The autumn is full of useful conferences, seminars and masterclasses for organisers of festivals and events. On the 17-18 October, Paul Gudgin - for 8 years Director of the Edinburg Finge Festival and a brilliant tutor, is coming to Malmö to give yet another Festival and Event Masterclass and 7-8 November Kultur i Väst is hosting the annual Arts & Audiences conference in Gothenburg.

Contemporary and innovative opera at Swedish festivals

Two festivals successfully provides space for new opera 2016. First Lacko Opera Festival who commissioned Det går an by the young composer Daniel Fjellström and second Halland Opera & Vocal Festival is the first to stage Mitt lyckliga liv by Stefan Klaverdal. Both are brilliant examples of how new opera engages the audience.

Swedish Government Agency to focus on festivals and touring

Starting in autumn 2016 Musikverket are investing to develop and improve structures on the Swedish music scene. Apart from the agency's mission to allocate financial support to collaborative projects within the free music scene, they now also have the possibility to assign tasks to national players to strengthen the music scene. During the autumn of 2016, Musikverket will invest in the development of continuous structures for the touring musical productions, but also focus on the improvement of festivals.

2016 support to New Swedish Music on festivals

Sweden Festival's collaboration with the Association of Swedish Composers and STIM Promotion Board is designed to support the performance of the new Swedish copyright-protected music on festivals in Sweden and abroad.

In Sweden the support this year includes 40 works of 27 Swedish composers and 13 commissioned works. The new music amounts to 14 hours and 25 minutes and is performed at 12 festivals from Haparanda in the north to Malmö in the south between June 12 and October 20, 2016 involving a total of 235 participating musicians and other artists.

NordicBaltic Festival Platform Conference 2016 - Save the Date!

The upcoming two-day conference in Vilnius - 3-4 November 2016 - is a continuation of the Stockolm-conference last year and a unique opportunity for festival organizers in the Nordic and Baltic countries to meet, exchange experiences and plan artistic and operative partnerships. Festivals in all art forms are involved. As in Stockholm, 6 festivals will be selected to present a project looking for one or more partners in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The Organizer's Handbook - a great tool for festivals

All organizers of music events, but also those who deal with other art forms can benefit from The Organizer 's Handbook (Arrangörshandboken). The guide is produced and updated on regular basis by MAIS ( The Association Music Organizers in Sweden) that includes Sweden Festivals. The manual serves as a guide, with information and advice to anyone who wants to arrange live music - concerts , clubs , festivals , etc. It is aimed at all ages, all genres and all levels ; beginners as well as experienced organizers who want to develop parts of - or all - of its arranging.

Artistic festival cooperation at its best!

Music Masters on Air (MusMA) is a very well-functioning project or as it is stated at MusMAs new website: A durable cooperation project between festivals, in partnership with radio broadcasters, to build a European network for the promotion of young composers and new music. A festival collaboration that offers music creatives the unique opportunity to have their work performed all over Europe, confront themselves with the festival industry and reach a broad audience both on and off air.
