World-renowned violinst open Sweden's oldest festival

The 68th Kullabygden Music Festival opens on July 6th with Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto performed by the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra directed by Daniel Blendulf and with Janine Jansen as soloist. Other performers during the week include the soprano Gitta Maria Sjöberg with the klezmerband Mames Babegennush, Nisse Landgren plays with jazzguitarist Johan Norberg, Trio con Brio Copenhagen plays Bartók and Brahms with clarinetist Olii Leppäniemi and Lill Lindfors and Sven-Bertil Taube performs with Anders Ekdahl's Quartet.

Beautiful tones on a bright summer evening

Music at Lake Siljan - one of Sweden's oldest festivals - is arranged for the 44th time. The festival includes everything from folk dance to operaimprovisation, from the birch trumpet to the soprano saxophone, it includes Bingsjöstämman and courses in choral singing, kulning, violin playing and folk dance. Every day during the weeklong festival around Lake Siljan, there is dance in a village in the Dala landscape. But above all there are plenty of concerts.

The impossible is the most wonderful opportunity

That is the subtitle for this year's Lyckå Chamber Music Festival in the immediate vicinity of Karlskrona. The words most certainly tells us something crucial about what it is to start and run an arts festival. Lyckå Chamber Music Festival celebrates 30 years with honour. The program is dominated by Beethoven from the beginning to the end. But in the middle it picks up the anniversary of Benjamin Britten. One of the highlights is a portrait concert of the Swedish composer Rolf Martinsson with Lisa Larsson, soprano, Roland Pöntinen, piano and Kreutzer Quartet.

Yohio i Öregrund och Miss Li i Östhammar

This year's edition of the Östhammar Music Festival moves from place to place in the municipality; Öregrund, Gimo, Alunda, Hargshamn, Österbybruk and Östhammar, and the artists that come to perform are of various  kind. Such as Carrasco Dance Company, Rebaroque with Josefin Andersson, Monica Borrfors, Hazelius & Hedin, Calle Kristiansson, Tommy Löbel Swing Band with John Pohlman, Wille Crafoord and Mikael Ramel, the Romeo and Juliet Choir and folkpunk, New Orleans jazz, and much much more. The Fest ends with Swedish Pop-artists Yohio and Miss Li.

New Swedish music on festivals

This summer The Swedish Composers Society (FST) and the Association of Swedish Music Festivals (SMF) has launched a new collaboration with the aim to spread the music of contemporary Swedish composers on the classic summer music festivals across Sweden. In 2013 the cooperation resulted in eight concerts with new Swedish music at seven festivals.

Jam-packed jazz from Haparanda to Sandviken

27 to 30 June have two jam-packed jazz and blues festivals to visit. Kalottjazz- and Blues Festival in Haparande celebrates 30 with jazz, blues and various commemorative exhibitions. Sirpa Särkijärvi is this year's visual artist and among mainly Swedish and Finnish performing artists we find M.A.Numminen, Claes Jansson, Jukka Perko, Mariam Aida, Modern Sounds, Chickpeas and Iiro Rantala String Trio and others. Bangen Jazz and Blues festival in Sandviken is on for the 23rd time. The festival opens June 28 with Roger Pontare and Sandviken Big Band in the City Park.

Classical chamber music and a music festival for children

On 23rd and 24th June starts 2 week-long classical chamber music festivals and  Virserum Music Festival focusing on children and young people. Båstad Chamber Music Festival on the Bjäre Peninsula in Skåne and the Saxå Chamber Music Festival in the borderland between Filipstad and Grythyttan opens both with inaugural speeches, soprano soloist and string quartett. In Båstad music by Klas Torstensson and Ludwig van Beethoven and at the Saxå mansion we hear Respighi followed by Brahms and Dvorak. In Virserum the festival opens on June 23rd with a magnificent liturgy in gospel tone.

La Traviata in a Norwegian setting

It was a completely new version of Verdi's opera La Traviata that on Midsummer's Eve launched Drakamöllans three day-operafestival. "In our set of, we have changed the 19th-century Paris against a Norwegian fjordlandskap at the same time, "said Guido Paevatalu, artistic and musical director of the opera festival, "the idea was raised when we was asked to perform later this summer at the Drakamöllans sister arena; Åmot Opera farm in Norway.
