Festival O/modernt on Confidencen

Festival O/modernt is a young festival situated in the venerable Confidencen at Ulriksdal Palace outside Stockholm. With the subtitle Reflections of the musical past into the present, Festival O/MODƏRNT celebrates this “looking back” to the past by exploring the relationships between the work of old composers and the artistic and intellectual creations of modern culture, be it in music, art, dance, theatre, film, poetry, literature, academia and so forth.

Exquisite performances

Exquisite performances, writes DN on June 10. The newspaper as well as the Minister for Culture visited Stockholm Early Music Festival and notes at the international standard is high and that the audience are stomping euphoric in the pews. Dagens Nyheter describes the artistry during the Festival as genuine and with sincere love for the material that touches, but also amuses. The festival took place from 4-9 June in Old Town, Stockholm.

The season starts at Drottningholm

On May 25th the new season starts at Drottningholm Slottsteater! Then follows a packed summer that lasts until september 14. It all starts with Cimarosas most famous comic opera and then becomes more and more Mozart. Sopranos and mezzos like Anne Sofi von Otter and Elin Rombo, Susanne Rydén, Anna Järvinen and acclaimed Julia Lezhneva - with Sweden debut - are making entrances and exits on the historic stage. The season's main production is Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito directed by Sigrid T'hooft.

Young Swedish soloists 2013

Music in the Castles and Manor houses of Sörmland presents this year Ellen Nisbeth, viola, and Hanna Husahr, soprano, as their young Swedish soloists. The Festival - that aims to give the audience a meeting with tomorrow's musicians - is with more than 60 concerts around the whole of Sörmland closest to a group of concerts and smaller festivals organized by a variety of smaller organizers in castles and manor houses, and sometimes - despite the Festival's title - even in a barn.

European festivals met in Granada

From 18-21 April, 145 delegates representing 66 festivals from 35 countries met in Granada, Spain, for the 2013 General Assembly & Conference of the European Festivals Association (EFA). The event was hosted by the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada.

Swedish Music Festivals' website becomes an even more important gateway to Festival Sweden and our member festivals can hopefully sell more tickets. Right now there are only a few concerts in May added, but soon more festivals will start using this feature.

New festival highlights choir and organ music

Nosaby parish in the vicinity of Kristianstad in Southern Sweden runs a new festival from 31st May 31 this year. Namely Nosaby-Kristianstad Choir and Organ Festival. Here the emphasis is on the two most prevalent Church room instruments: organ and choir - the human voice. The Festival's artistic director and initiator, Urban Rosengren, says : "solo organ music, as well as in combination with choral singing is an often neglected form of art.

Musik-art-dance-etc = MADE is on

A red thread on the 2013 festival is the voice and voice capabilities, with several strong singers among the participating artists including El Perro del Mar, Sibille Attar, Ladysmith Black Mambazo from South Africa, the Seattle duo THEESatisfaction, Wildbirds & Peachdrums-vocalist Mariam Wallentin running her solo project Mariam the Believer. For the first time there will also be theatre with acclaimed Blind Summit from England and their gallows, however, theatrical performance The Table.

European Festivals Association re-elected President

The 2013 General Assembly & Conference of the European Festivals Association (EFA) took place from 18-21 April in Granada, Spain, and was hosted by the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada. It was the opportunity for 145 delegates representing 66 festivals from 35 countries to meet their colleagues, to exchange on what is at stake in the world of festivals all over Europe and beyond and to have an inspiring time.
