International cultural exchange have declined

"International cultural exchanges in the performing arts-a divided story"  says a report that Svensk Scenkonst (Swedish Performing Arts) has just presented. Dagens Nyheter concludes: "Internationalization has been high on the political agenda of culture, especially during the past year. In addition, international cultural exchange is one of the cultural policy objectives. Despite this, appropriations from the State for this purpose has declined over the past five years, and authorities have little overview of the performing arts needs.

Atelier Beirut 2013

The European Festivals Association is the umbrella organisation for festivals across Europe and beyond. One of the upcoming opportunities offered by EFA is its training programme Atelier for Young Festival Managers: beirut 5-12 October 2013 and Edinburgh 3-10 april 2014.

World famous violinist ready for the Kullabygden Music Festival

The Dutch violinist Janine Jansen is, somewhat sensationally, ready for the Kullabygden Music Festival. The venerable chamber music festival is the oldest in Sweden and takes place in early July. The concert with Jansen and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra on the 6th is by all accounts a real family celebration. The conductor is namely Janine Jansen's husband, Daniel Blendulf, according to OPUS the magazine.

Martin Fröst and Vinterfest

All who missed Vinterfest in Dalarna, that took place in February 2013, still have their chance. Swedish Television sent on 6 april a programme on Martin Frösts well-known festival. It can be seen for another 20 days. Martin Fröst will also next recipient of Danish Sonningspriset previously awarded to Stravinsky, Bernstein, Sjostakovitsj, Miles Davis, Keith Jarret and Simon Rattle to mention a few.

European Festival Associations met in Belgrade

For the eight time the European Festivals Association (EFA) organized a meeting for their collective and affiliated members.This time in Belgrade March 15 to 17. The members include Swedish Music Festivals and about 10 other national festival associations.The first meeting took place in Rome 2006. Subsequently Ljubljana, Tallinn, Ubeda, Stockholm, Budapest and last year Dublin hosted the meeting.

FST och SMF i samarbete om ny svensk musik

The Society of Swedish Composers and the Swedish Music Festivals have gradually started the work to bring new Swedish music to festivals in Sweden. Swedish Music Festivals have to this end sought and received SEK 100 000 from STIMs Promotionnämnd for the current year. But sights are set on Europe. And Swedish Music Festivals have already begun conversations with colleagues and festivals in the Nordic countries, in Baltikum and elsewhere in Europe.

SMF members grow and cooperate more

This year 5 festivals have become new members of the Swedish Music Festivals; Chamber Music Festival in All Saints Church and Festival O/Modernt at Confidencen in Stockholm, Nosaby Choir and Organ Festival in Kristianstad, Strömstad Opera on the West Coast and Baroquefestivalen in Varnhem. Moreover Dalhalla Opera returns with new artistic and administrative leadership and have begun discussions of cooperation on marketing and other issues with Opera på Skäret in Kopparberg.

NordicBaltic Festival Platform

The NordicBaltic Festival Platform was succesfully launched in a meeting of festivals in Riga 19 February. Several festivals and National Association of Festivals have participated in 3 succesive meeting that lead to the platform being formed; in Reykjavik 2011, in Stockholm 2012 and finally in Riga 2013.

The meeting in Riga took place during the first conference and showcase called Classic NordicBaltic organised and hosted by Latvian Concerts.

European Day of Early Music

21 March has by REMA - European Early Music Network - for the first time been declared the European Day of Early Music. The patron of the Day is Androulla Vassiliou, member of the European Commission and on the REMA website you may hear her message.
