Festival a brilliant form for combating sexism

#Metoo and a hot debate about sexism within the jazz give reason to remind us about music's power to change stale structures. That the cultural world is a particularly favourable ground for sexism and abuse has been found in the pursuit of #metoo. At the same time, the power of culture and the art to change should not be forgotten, writes Sara Meidell, Cultural journalist in Västerbottens-Kuriren

When it is about European cohesion, culture matters most.

Never before were people so generous to culture, when interviewed by Eurobarometer. This spring, as they were asked to sort issues that are able to create a feeling of community among EU citizens, Europeans put culture clearly on top: 31% of respondents mentioned culture as one of the three most decisive issues.

The Festival Academy - Atelier Gothenburg 2018

The Festival Academy (European Festivals Association) launches the call for application for the 14th edition of the Atelier for Young Festival Managers, taking place in Gothenburg, Sweden, 23 - 29 August 2018, hosted by and co-organised with Kultur i Väst, the cultural administration of the region Västra Götaland. Sweden Festivals has been asked to support Kultur i Väst in making the Atelier a Swedish success. Nordiska kulturfondens three-year music initiative started in August 2017. Since then, 43 concertvenues and festivals - so-called pulse organisers - from across the Nordic region have spread new Nordic tones to a new audience. pulse is now entering its second year and opens for new applications from festivals and venues in Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Åland. pulse is a springboard for the creation of a Nordic live music network. It is also aimed at providing music experiences of high artistic quality to a wider Nordic audience.
