We celebrate European Day of Early Music

Welcome and celebrate European Day of Early Music 2014!

On 21st March 2014, the second edition of the European Day of Early Music will be celebrated all over Europe. LIVE on web TV! In Stockholm we celebrate the day on Stockholm Central Train Station from 10 to late afternoon. While the first edition of this celebration in 2013 was supported by Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Culture, the 2014 event will be under the patronnage of UNESCO.

According to Irina Bokova, general director of UNESCO « without any doubt, this day will contribute to promote the musical heritage and artistic creation. Therefore, I can only congratulate the organizers for this initiative, which is fully in line with UNESCO objectives to promote the intercultural dialogue. »

On 21st March, the first day of spring and birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach, many concerts, conferences and other events in several countries will bring awareness on the diversity of the European historical musical heritage. A number of these events will be available to wide audiences through online live streamings. The project is also realised in collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Peter Pontvik, President of REMA, comments: “We are very pleased with the increased interest in Early Music and the UNESCO patronage which connects the European Day of Early Music with the world.”
