Festival O/modernt on Confidencen

Festival O/modernt is a young festival situated in the venerable Confidencen at Ulriksdal Palace outside Stockholm. With the subtitle Reflections of the musical past into the present, Festival O/MODƏRNT celebrates this “looking back” to the past by exploring the relationships between the work of old composers and the artistic and intellectual creations of modern culture, be it in music, art, dance, theatre, film, poetry, literature, academia and so forth. The Festival runs until June 17 and includes artists such as Lena Hoel, Elin Rombo, Thorleif Thedéen, Svante Henryson, Anders Paulsson...

Each year a single composer closely contemporary with the period when the Ulriksdals Palace Theatre Confidencen first rose to life will be the guiding spirit of the festival. In 2013 it will be the great French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. In 1722, Rameau published his renowned Traité de l’Harmonie. The harmony treatise was the first of its kind to denote chords as vertical combinations and played a defining role in how harmony was subsequently understood. Hence, the guiding concept for the 2013 edition of festival O/MODƏRNT is “the vertical”.

The artistic director is Hugo Ticciati.
