The European Capital of Culture Umeå2014 is hosting Swedish Music Festivals conference and annual meeting 10-12 april. Not only is Umeå the northernmost capital of culture ever, but Norrlandsoperan also celebrates 40 years! It's alltogether a great UmeFest we going to! We meet on 10 april for food and mingle, spend the whole day on april 11 in a conference with Europe at the Centre: European study of festivals and European capitals ocf culture, and end with the annual meeting 12 April! And then not to forget: jazz! 12 Points Festival, every night!

SMF greet you welcome to the "open meeting" with a Conference that focuses on reports from FestStudy and Umeå capital of culture 2014. During the days we also arrang 12 Points Festival to which participants have free admission.
12 Points Festival
12 Points Festival is European cooperation with its base in Dublin, which ties together a network of partners in Europe including the Norrlandsoperan and Umeå Jazz Festival. The Festival presents 12 young artists/groups from 12 European countries and is open to European bands and solo artists in jazz and improvisational music. They are selected on the basis of an invitation where they apply online. Last year 300 artists applied. A jury from the partner organisations choose the artists.
The Festival alternates between Dublin and any of the partner countries. 2012 was in Porto, 2013 in Dublin and 2014 in Umeå, with Umeå Jazz Festival as host.
The 10-12 April presents 12 bands in 3 concerts. On the 10th and 11th three each and on the 12th six. The Festival is a Showcase that invite Club-concert and festival organizers. After the Festival, three groups are given a two year tour under the label of 12 Points. Umeå Jazz festival has featured at least two artists per festival. http://www.12points.ie/festival
Umeå capital of culture
Very few have missed to notice that Umeå together with Riga are European Capitals of Culture 2014. During the Conference you will get a taste of how the "great festival" have been planned and how it is implemented. NorrlandsOperan will also provides a presentation of its 2014-activities and we offer a tour of Kulturväven, that are under construction and planned to open 21 november 2014.
