European festivals met in Granada

From 18-21 April, 145 delegates representing 66 festivals from 35 countries met in Granada, Spain, for the 2013 General Assembly & Conference of the European Festivals Association (EFA). The event was hosted by the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada. The 3-day programme included highlights as the launch of The Festival Academy, discussions about issues at heart of the festival business, in particular artistic co-productions and cross-border collaboration; meetings of festivals active in the field of new music (ARS NOVA meeting); and a diverse cultural programme allowing enough networking time.
President Darko Brlek, Artistic and General Director of Ljubljana Festival, was re-elected by the EFA General Assembly for another four years.
Furthermore, the General Assembly admitted six new members from six countries: Festival d’Automne à Paris (interdisciplinary; France); Usedom Music Festival (music; Germany); Riga Festival (music, Latvia); Menuhin Festival Gstaad (music; Switzerland); Turkish State Theatres (theatre; Turkey); and the Bulgarian Festivals Association (interdisciplinary; Bulgaria).
The 2014 EFA General Assembly and Conference will take place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the invitation of the International Festival “Sarajevo Winter”, as 2014 marks 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War.
